Akagera National Park:

Indeed, Akagera has one of the longest species lists for any conservation area in Africa: over 525 species that have been recorded.

Dominated scenically by the labyrinth of swamps and lakes that follow the meandering course of Akagera River, Akagera national Park is one of the areas with interesting wildlife in Africa. The park features three distinct environments: standard savanna as seen in much of the region; an immense swampy area along the border with Tanzania that contains six lakes and numerous islands, some of which are covered with forest; and a chain of low mountains on thee flanks of the park that stretches through much of the length of the short grasses on the summits to woodland savanna and dense thickets of forest.
The best time to visit is during the dry season and that is mid May to September. Taking a boat trip on the lakes is a good idea, via Akagera River. This will enable you enjoy views of plenty of birds. 
Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentration of waterbirds, while the connecting marshes are the haunt of the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork and the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds.
The acacia savanna supports many broadly distributed African birds such as Bennett's Woodpecker, headed Black Chat, White-Black-collared Barbet, Tabora Cisticola and Miombo Wren-warbler. Akagera is probably the best site in which to look for the very rare Ring-necked Francolin.
Camping alongside the picturesque lakes of Akagera is a truly mystical introduction to the wonders of the African bush. Magically, the air is torn apart by the unforgettable high duetting of a pair of fish eagles, asserting their status of the continent’s densest concentration of waterbirds.
