6 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari
Day 1: Kampala to Kasese
Meet and greet at 08:00hrs. Drive from Kampala by road via Masaka-Mbarara to Kasese and head for the foothills of the mountains of the moon. Check in at hotel Margarita for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Climb Nyabitaba
After your morning breakfast, transfer to Nyakalengija on to Ibanda to start your 5-6 hour climb into the mountains. Your climb takes you through thick Equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba hut (2650 meters) in the late evening for Dinner and Overnight.
Day 3: Hiking (John Matte)
Have an early breakfast and then start a morning hike through the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to marvel at the sparkling Mobuku river confluence. A climb through the open patches, Lobelia, and Heath moss forest before proceeding up to the John Matte hutyou’re your dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Bigo Bog
After breakfast leave John Matte hut to cross the Bujuku River and enter the lower Bigo Bog, where your first real experience of jumping from tussock to tussock on a grassy bog begins. You ascend to the Bigo Bog and scenic landscape of Lobelias and giant Groundsels. Dinner and overnight stop at Bujuku hut (3997 meters).
Day 5: Bujuku Hut to Kitandara Hut
From Bujuku hut you will ascend to the highest point on the Loop Trail, Scott Elliot Pass (4,372m) before descending to the two Kitandara lakes. The hut is next to the second lake.
Day 6: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut
This is a five hour walk, starting with a steep ascent to fresh field Pass (4,282m) then a descent to Bujongolo cave (3,720m), the base used by the 1906 expedition. Retire early enough to transfer back to Kampala. Or you may decide to extend your trip by visiting Bujongolo cave (3,720m), the base used by the 1906 expedition. Further along the trail at kabamba cave (3,450m) there is so attractive waterfall and rock shelter where you can stay overnight as an alternative to Guy yeoman Hut.
