2 Days Ngamba Island Tour
Day 1: Kampala to Ngamba Island
After breakfast, we commence our trip by driving to Ngamba Chimpanzee sanctuary. You will take a short briefing by your guide before driving to the shores of Lake Victoria to meet your 9.00am launch. The boat takes about 45 minutes across to Ngamba Island, crossing the Equator en-route. Several boat options are available for transportation to the island. The choice will depend upon budget, the size of the group and availability.
On arrival to the Island and shortly before viewing the Chimpanzees, an informative presentation will be given to all visitors explaining the background, aims and objectives of the sanctuary as well as interesting facts about chimpanzees in general and , in particular the chimpanzees that reside on Ngamba. It is fascinating to watch the chimps interact with each other and with their keepers. A special raised walkway facility has been set up at the edge of the sanctuary to cater for visitors to view the chimpanzees in their near natural environment. Opportunities are available for you to enjoy being close enough to view the behaviour of one of our closest animal relatives. (Please note that you will be required to have shots of Hepatitis A and B, Measles, (or had the disease as a child, Meningococcal/menomune vaccine, Polio, tetanus-up to date and yellow fever). Meals and overnight at Ngamba Tented Camp.
Day Two: Forest walk
Morning after breakfast, start the morning forest walk with the juvenile chimpanzees. The forest walk experience offers you an opportunity to join a group of infant chimpanzees on a one hour walk through the forest habitat, either in the late afternoon or very early morning. You will be allowed to hold them while in the forest and you should expect to get very dirty courtesy of the playful chimpanzees. This opportunity is only a short-term one and indeed a privilege whilst our juvenile group of chimpanzees is manageable with the general public. In the afternoon, take your speed boat back on the main land and transferred back to Kampala which marks the end of you Safari.
