The closest Savannah Reserve to Kampala is centred on a series of swamp-fringed lakes known for their rich birdlife, notably the secretive African finfoot. The Park’s well developed Acacia woodland harbors a number of bird species. This is the only place in Uganda to see the typically savannah bird species. It is the best place in Uganda to find Africa finfoot and most of the papyrus endemics. Birding in Lake Mburo national Park is done through out the year and the time required for birding in Lake Mburo National Park is 1-2 days.
Moist Acacia Savanna, taller mixed woodland, aquatic habitat including lakes and papyrus swamps, grassland, rocky ridges.
Status: National Park since 1986.
African Finfoot, Brown-chested plover, Southern Ground Hornbill, Spot flanked, Red-facedand black collared barbets, White winged warbler, Papyrus yellow warbler, Carruthers’, Cisticolas, Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow-billed Oxpecker and Northern brown Throated weaver.
